Telstra Default Modem Passwords

This page lists 3 confirmed default credentials for Telstra equipment, covering 3 models. The pairing you are most likely to need is admin with the password printed on that unit’s own label.

Entries are reachable over http. All of these entries use a protocol that sends the password in clear text, so use them on a trusted network and change the password once you are in.

On most Telstra equipment the admin password is printed on the device itself, on its label or settings card. If it has been changed and you cannot recall it, a reset returns it to the printed one. Know a Telstra model we are missing? Add it.

About Telstra

Telstra supplies its own Smart Modem with Telstra internet plans. The Telstra records here run across the Smart line.

Reaching the login page

The admin page on most Telstra units answers at http://192.168.0.1, or at mymodem if the router is handling your DNS. If that address does not load, the router is whatever your computer lists as its default gateway — ipconfig on Windows or ipconfig getoption en0 router on a Mac will tell you.

The username is admin. On the Smart Modem Gen 3 and Gen 4 the password is the default Wi-Fi password printed on the bottom of the modem. Only the older Gen 2 and Smart Modem 1.1 use the fixed password Telstra.

What the Telstra defaults look like

Every entry uses the username admin. On 2 entries the password is unique to each unit and printed on its label. All of them are reached over a protocol that puts the password on the wire in clear text, so work from a machine on the same wired network rather than across the internet, and change the password once you are in.

Where Telstra prints the admin password

Password is printed on the bottom of the Smart Modem, as the default Wi-Fi password. On the Gen 3 and Gen 4 it is the same password that joins the Wi-Fi, and it is also on the Wi-Fi sticker or fridge magnet in the box.Drawn from Telstra’s own description. The real label looks different and carries other details.

Which Smart Modem do I have?

The model name is on the bottom or back of the modem. The Gen 4 and Gen 3 log in with admin and the Wi-Fi password from the label. The Gen 2 and the Smart Modem 1.1 use admin and Telstra, with a capital T.

mymodem does not open

http://mymodem only works on a device connected to the Telstra modem, by Wi-Fi or cable. If the name still does not load, type 192.168.0.1 instead.

If the Telstra password has already been changed

Smart Modem Gen 4: hold the R button on the back for 5 seconds, then let go. The modem goes back to the Wi-Fi name and password on its label.

The catch with an ISP-supplied unit is that a reset also clears the broadband credentials, and on some lines the router will not reconnect until those are re-entered. Find them before you press anything, or be ready to ring the provider.
