3Com Default Router Passwords

This page lists 57 confirmed default credentials for 3Com equipment, covering 30 models. The pairing you are most likely to need is admin with admin.

Entries are reachable over telnet, multi and http. 33 of these entries use a protocol that sends the password in clear text, so use them on a trusted network and change the password once you are in.

These are factory default credentials, not the password printed on the sticker under your router. If yours has been changed and you cannot recall it, a 30-second reset button hold returns the device to the defaults above. Know a 3Com model we are missing? Add it.

About 3Com

3Com built Ethernet networking from 1979 until HP absorbed it in 2010, and its OfficeConnect and SuperStack lines are still in service. The 3Com records here run across the OfficeConnect and SuperStack lines.

Reaching the login page

Point a browser at whatever your computer reports as its default gateway. On Windows that is the Default Gateway line from ipconfig; on macOS, Network settings shows it under the active connection. Management on the switch lines is over console or Telnet rather than a web page.

What the 3Com defaults look like

admin is the username on 17 of the 57 entries. 13 of them ask for no username at all. 24 of them shipped with no password at all.

Where one is set, admin comes up most often, on 9 entries. There are 16 different passwords across the 3Com set, so check your exact model rather than assuming. 33 of them are reached over a protocol that puts the password on the wire in clear text, so work from a machine on the same wired network rather than across the internet, and change the password once you are in.

If the 3Com password has already been changed

There is a recessed reset button on the back or underneath that needs a straightened paperclip. Hold it in for thirty seconds with the unit powered on. Let go when the lights change pattern, and give it a couple of minutes to come back up.

A reset clears more than the password. The Wi-Fi name and key go back to what is printed on the label, port forwards and firewall rules are discarded, and any static addressing is lost. Photograph the settings pages first — it takes two minutes and saves an evening.
