Asus Default Router Passwords

ASUS default password: the short answer

Current ASUS routers have no working factory password. The first login, and any login after a reset, makes you create your own username and password. Some ASUS models print a default login on the label, and many older ones use admin for both the username and the password.

Login address
www.asusrouter.com, or the router’s IP: 192.168.50.1 on most current models, 192.168.1.1 on many older ones.
New or reset router
No default. You set the login account and password on first sign-in.
Older and label models
admin / admin, or the login printed on the sticker underneath.
Forgot the password?
Hold the Reset button for at least 5 seconds, until the power light flashes.

How to log in to an ASUS router

  1. Connect to the router. Plug in a network cable, or join its Wi-Fi. A new or reset router broadcasts a name such as ASUS_XX, printed on the label on the back.
  2. Open the login page. Type www.asusrouter.com or the router’s IP address into the browser. If you do not know the IP, ASUS’s Device Discovery utility finds it.
  3. Sign in, or create a login. Enter the username and password you set. On a first login or after a reset, the router asks you to create them.

These steps follow ASUS’s own login guide. You can also set up and manage ASUS routers from the ASUS Router app.

These are factory default credentials, not the password printed on the sticker under your router. If yours has been changed and you cannot recall it, a 30-second reset button hold returns the device to the defaults above. Know a ASUS model we are missing? Add it.

About ASUS

ASUS has built consumer and prosumer networking hardware alongside its motherboard and laptop lines since the late 1990s. The ASUS records here run across the RT-N-, RT-AC-, WL-, AAM- and DSL-N- lines.

Reaching the login page

The admin page on most ASUS units answers at http://192.168.50.1, or at www.asusrouter.com if the router is handling your DNS. If that address does not load, the router is whatever your computer lists as its default gateway — ipconfig on Windows or ipconfig getoption en0 router on a Mac will tell you.

Routers running ASUSWRT prompt you to set your own username and password during first-run setup, so the factory pair only works on a unit that has never been configured or has just been reset.

What the ASUS defaults look like

admin is the username on 55 of the 59 entries. One entry asks for no username at all. Where one is set, admin comes up most often, on 56 entries.

8 of them are reached over a protocol that puts the password on the wire in clear text, so work from a machine on the same wired network rather than across the internet, and change the password once you are in.

If the ASUS password has already been changed

Hold the Reset button for at least 5 seconds with the router switched on, until the power light starts to flash (ASUS support FAQ).

A reset clears more than the password. The Wi-Fi name and key go back to what is printed on the label, port forwards and firewall rules are discarded, and any static addressing is lost. Photograph the settings pages first — it takes two minutes and saves an evening.

ASUS router password questions

I forgot my ASUS router password. What now?

Reset the router. With it switched on, press and hold the Reset button for at least 5 seconds, until the power light starts to flash. The router goes back to factory settings, and on the next login you create a new username and password. If you can still sign in, the same reset is under Administration, Restore/Save/Upload Setting, Restore. ASUS’s reset guide shows where the button is.

Is admin / admin still the ASUS default?

Only on some models. ASUS says some routers use admin for both, some print their own login on the label, and current firmware makes you create a login the first time. If the login page asks you to set a password, there is no default to look up.

Is the router password the same as my Wi-Fi password?

No. ASUS points out that the router login opens the settings, the Wi-Fi password joins the network, and your internet provider’s account is a third login again. For the Wi-Fi one, see our Wi-Fi password guide.

asusrouter.com will not open

Your device has to be connected to the ASUS router for the address to work. Try the IP address instead, 192.168.50.1 or 192.168.1.1, or use ASUS Device Discovery to find it.

It will not let me log in from another computer

If you closed the browser without logging out, ASUS says you need to wait three minutes before you can log in again from a different device.
