These are factory default credentials, not the password printed on the sticker under your router. If yours has been changed and you cannot recall it, a 30-second reset button hold returns the device to the defaults above. Know a HP model we are missing? Add it.

About HP

HP covers printers, servers and, through the ProCurve and 3Com lines, a large part of the enterprise switch market. The HP records here run across the LaserJet line.

Reaching the login page

Point a browser at whatever your computer reports as its default gateway. On Windows that is the Default Gateway line from ipconfig; on macOS, Network settings shows it under the active connection. Most entries here are for JetDirect print servers and management software rather than routers.

What the HP defaults look like

MGR is the username on 23 of the 70 entries. 4 of them ask for no username at all. 6 of them shipped with no password at all.

Where one is set, HPOFFICE comes up most often, on 5 entries. There are 46 different passwords across the HP set, so check your exact model rather than assuming. 6 of them are reached over a protocol that puts the password on the wire in clear text, so work from a machine on the same wired network rather than across the internet, and change the password once you are in.

If the HP password has already been changed

There is a recessed reset button on the back or underneath that needs a straightened paperclip. Hold it in for thirty seconds with the unit powered on. Let go when the lights change pattern, and give it a couple of minutes to come back up.

A reset clears more than the password. The Wi-Fi name and key go back to what is printed on the label, port forwards and firewall rules are discarded, and any static addressing is lost. Photograph the settings pages first — it takes two minutes and saves an evening.
