Xfinity Default Router Passwords

This page lists 2 confirmed default credentials for Xfinity equipment, covering 2 models. The pairing you are most likely to need is admin with the password printed on that unit’s own label.

Entries are reachable over http. All of these entries use a protocol that sends the password in clear text, so use them on a trusted network and change the password once you are in.

On most Xfinity equipment the admin password is printed on the device itself, on its label or settings card. If it has been changed and you cannot recall it, a reset returns it to the printed one. Know a Xfinity model we are missing? Add it.

About Xfinity

Xfinity is Comcast’s consumer internet brand, supplied with its own XB-series gateways.

Reaching the login page

The admin page on most Xfinity units answers at http://10.0.0.1. If that address does not load, the router is whatever your computer lists as its default gateway — ipconfig on Windows or ipconfig getoption en0 router on a Mac will tell you.

On XB6, XB7, XB8 and XB10 gateways the browser Admin Tool is switched off until you turn it on in the Xfinity app, which is also where you create its password.

What the Xfinity defaults look like

Every entry uses the username admin. All of them are reached over a protocol that puts the password on the wire in clear text, so work from a machine on the same wired network rather than across the internet, and change the password once you are in.

Turning on the Admin Tool

On an XB6, XB7, XB8 or XB10 the page at 10.0.0.1 will not take a password until online access is switched on. In the Xfinity app go to WiFi, then View WiFi equipment, then Advanced settings, and turn on Admin Tool online access. You create the admin password at that point; the username is always admin.

Xfinity says customers who enabled access before February 2026 may still be using the password on the sticker underneath the gateway.

Older XB2 and XB3 gateways

These sign in at http://10.0.0.1 with the username admin and the password printed on the sticker on the bottom of the gateway.

Admin password or Wi-Fi password?

They are separate. The Wi-Fi name and password for joining the network are changed in the Xfinity app; the admin password only opens the gateway’s own settings pages. See the difference between the two.

Xfinity firmware and known issues

Xfinity pushes gateway firmware automatically, usually overnight, and customers cannot install updates themselves. It publishes no release notes. An Xfinity employee said in May 2026 that Xfinity has not emailed customers asking them to update firmware, so treat such an email as a scam. Xfinity forum, staff reply

Versions from customer reports on the Xfinity forum

  • FixedBridge Mode toggle and some Gateway menus missing from the 10.0.0.1 admin page

First reported December 2025, with most reports from late January to mid February 2026. Seen on the XB6, XB7, XB8 and XB10 after an update. An Xfinity employee said on 8 February 2026 that it was a known issue and a fix had been pushed. A few customers still reported it afterwards, and one XB10 owner cleared it with a factory reset. Xfinity forum, staff reply

  • Reported by users2.4 GHz devices stopped connecting to the XB8 after an update

First reported July 2025. Several customers also lost port forwarding rules or found the channel setting greyed out. No Xfinity response in the thread. Xfinity forum thread

XB10

  • Reported by usersLinux laptops with Intel Wi-Fi connect at 54 Mbps on the 5 GHz band

First reported July 2026. The 6 GHz band works normally. Xfinity staff suggested an adapter compatibility problem and updating the Wi-Fi driver. Xfinity forum thread

Checked 4 October 2026. Xfinity updates its equipment itself, so the firmware on yours may already be newer.

If the Xfinity password has already been changed

There is a recessed reset button on the back or underneath that needs a straightened paperclip. Hold it in for thirty seconds with the unit powered on. Let go when the lights change pattern, and give it a couple of minutes to come back up.

The catch with an ISP-supplied unit is that a reset also clears the broadband credentials, and on some lines the router will not reconnect until those are re-entered. Find them before you press anything, or be ready to ring the provider.
