Windstream Default Modem Passwords

This page lists 2 confirmed default credentials for Windstream equipment, covering 2 models. The pairing you are most likely to need is admin with the password printed on that unit’s own label.

Entries are reachable over http. All of these entries use a protocol that sends the password in clear text, so use them on a trusted network and change the password once you are in.

On most Windstream equipment the admin password is printed on the device itself, on its label or settings card. If it has been changed and you cannot recall it, a reset returns it to the printed one. Know a Windstream model we are missing? Add it.

About Windstream

Windstream sells home internet as Kinetic and supplies the T-series and Zyxel modems listed here.

Reaching the login page

The admin page on most Windstream units answers at http://192.168.254.254. If that address does not load, the router is whatever your computer lists as its default gateway — ipconfig on Windows or ipconfig getoption en0 router on a Mac will tell you.

The username is admin and the password is unique to each modem, on its sticker. The Zyxel VMG4927-B50A answers on 192.168.1.1 rather than 192.168.254.254.

What the Windstream defaults look like

Every entry uses the username admin. On 2 entries the password is unique to each unit and printed on its label. All of them are reached over a protocol that puts the password on the wire in clear text, so work from a machine on the same wired network rather than across the internet, and change the password once you are in.

Where Windstream prints the admin password

Admin password is printed on the sticker on the side of the modem (underneath on the Zyxel). It is not the Wi-Fi password, even when both are on the same label.Drawn from Windstream’s own description. The real label looks different and carries other details.

If the Windstream password has already been changed

There is a recessed reset button on the back or underneath that needs a straightened paperclip. Hold it in for thirty seconds with the unit powered on. Let go when the lights change pattern, and give it a couple of minutes to come back up.

The catch with an ISP-supplied unit is that a reset also clears the broadband credentials, and on some lines the router will not reconnect until those are re-entered. Find them before you press anything, or be ready to ring the provider.
