MikroTik Default Router Passwords

This page lists 4 confirmed default credentials for MikroTik equipment, covering 3 models. The pairing you are most likely to need is admin with the password printed on that unit’s own label.

Entries are reachable over multi, http and telnet. 2 of these entries use a protocol that sends the password in clear text, so use them on a trusted network and change the password once you are in.

On most MikroTik equipment the admin password is printed on the device itself, on its label or settings card. If it has been changed and you cannot recall it, a reset returns it to the printed one. Know a MikroTik model we are missing? Add it.

About MikroTik

MikroTik is a Latvian company whose RouterOS runs on everything from small home units to carrier routers. The MikroTik records here run across the RouterOS line.

Reaching the login page

The admin page on most MikroTik units answers at http://192.168.88.1. If that address does not load, the router is whatever your computer lists as its default gateway — ipconfig on Windows or ipconfig getoption en0 router on a Mac will tell you.

RouterOS ships with the username admin and an empty password. From version 6.49 onward the device forces you to set one at first login. Winbox on the MAC address works when the IP is unknown.

What the MikroTik defaults look like

Every entry uses the username admin. 3 of them shipped with no password at all. 2 of them are reached over a protocol that puts the password on the wire in clear text, so work from a machine on the same wired network rather than across the internet, and change the password once you are in.

If the MikroTik password has already been changed

There is a recessed reset button on the back or underneath that needs a straightened paperclip. Hold it in for thirty seconds with the unit powered on. Let go when the lights change pattern, and give it a couple of minutes to come back up.

The catch with an ISP-supplied unit is that a reset also clears the broadband credentials, and on some lines the router will not reconnect until those are re-entered. Find them before you press anything, or be ready to ring the provider.
