HPE Default Passwords

This page lists 10 confirmed default credentials for HPE equipment, covering 10 models. The pairing you are most likely to need is Administrator with (random).

Entries are reachable over https, http and ssh. 3 of these entries use a protocol that sends the password in clear text, so use them on a trusted network and change the password once you are in.

These are factory default credentials, not the password printed on the sticker under your router. If yours has been changed and you cannot recall it, a 30-second reset button hold returns the device to the defaults above. Know a HPE model we are missing? Add it.

About HPE

The HPE records here run across the ILO- and OfficeConnect lines. The entries are logged as server management controllers, NAS and storage systems and network switches.

Reaching the login page

Point a browser at whatever your computer reports as its default gateway. On Windows that is the Default Gateway line from ipconfig; on macOS, Network settings shows it under the active connection.

What the HPE defaults look like

Administrator is the username on 4 of the 10 entries. One entry asks for no username at all. 3 of them shipped with no password at all.

Where one is set, (random) comes up most often, on 4 entries. 3 of them are reached over a protocol that puts the password on the wire in clear text, so work from a machine on the same wired network rather than across the internet, and change the password once you are in.

If the HPE password has already been changed

There is a recessed reset button on the back or underneath that needs a straightened paperclip. Hold it in for thirty seconds with the unit powered on. Let go when the lights change pattern, and give it a couple of minutes to come back up.

A reset clears more than the password. The Wi-Fi name and key go back to what is printed on the label, port forwards and firewall rules are discarded, and any static addressing is lost. Photograph the settings pages first — it takes two minutes and saves an evening.
