About Amcrest
The entries are logged as digital video recorders and CCTV cameras and recorders. 2 distinct Amcrest models are covered.
Reaching the login page
Point a browser at whatever your computer reports as its default gateway. On Windows that is the Default Gateway line from ipconfig; on macOS, Network settings shows it under the active connection.
What the Amcrest defaults look like
Every entry uses the username admin. One of them is reached over a protocol that puts the password on the wire in clear text, so work from a machine on the same wired network rather than across the internet, and change the password once you are in.

Cameras and recorders rarely have an accessible reset button. On a camera it is usually a small switch on the pigtail or under the dome that has to be held while power is applied. On a recorder the reset is normally a jumper or a button on the mainboard, which means opening the case. Several manufacturers will also generate a one-time unlock code from the device serial number and the current date if you contact their support with proof of ownership.
A reset on a recorder wipes the camera list, the recording schedule and the network settings, though it leaves the footage on the disks alone. Write down the IP addresses of the cameras first, because re-adding them one at a time is the slow part.
