DD-WRT Default Router Passwords

This page lists 1 confirmed default credential for DD-WRT equipment. The pairing you are most likely to need is root with admin.

Entries are reachable over http. All of these entry use a protocol that sends the password in clear text, so use them on a trusted network and change the password once you are in.

These are factory default credentials, not the password printed on the sticker under your router. If yours has been changed and you cannot recall it, a 30-second reset button hold returns the device to the defaults above. Know a DD-WRT model we are missing? Add it.

About DD-WRT

DD-WRT is third-party Linux firmware that replaces the stock software on a wide range of routers.

Reaching the login page

The admin page on most DD-WRT units answers at http://192.168.1.1. If that address does not load, the router is whatever your computer lists as its default gateway — ipconfig on Windows or ipconfig getoption en0 router on a Mac will tell you.

A fresh DD-WRT flash asks you to set a username and password on first load. The pair below applies before that step, or after an nvram erase.

If the DD-WRT password has already been changed

There is a recessed reset button on the back or underneath that needs a straightened paperclip. Hold it in for thirty seconds with the unit powered on. Let go when the lights change pattern, and give it a couple of minutes to come back up.

A reset clears more than the password. The Wi-Fi name and key go back to what is printed on the label, port forwards and firewall rules are discarded, and any static addressing is lost. Photograph the settings pages first — it takes two minutes and saves an evening.
